Earlier this month, I visited with John and Jackie

Harsh Reality Strikes!
The son of one of our
employees is a member of a fraternity at an engineering
college. He was chosen to find a contractor to
replace the non-functioning steam boiler in the frat
house. Being a teenager, he did not consult
with anyone here at NSPG for a recommendation of a
quality contractor!.
He found four local
contractors willing to quote the job. After
reviewing the bids and the contractors' qualifications,
they made their choice. Since they had no money,
they chose the lowest bidder, and called him within three
weeks of getting the quotation.
That's when they ran into
the hard reality of the business world. The
selected contractor was nowhere to be found. His phone
lines were disconnected and his business office was
empty. Most likely he was a victim of incorrect
pricing. Had he crunched his numbers regularly, he probably
would not have been so much lower than the other bidders
(more than 10% lower).
